The install was a smooth process, taking less than a minute. When I ran the program for the first time, I was asked to choose how much extra ratio it would report. That's right to the point, and exactly why I downloaded it. This was the feature that would give me better uTorrent speed. I left the slider at its default, about 3/4 of the way up on the upload side, and hit next.
Next it asked me to run my torrent client. It says you might have to run it as admin for Vista/7, but I'm on XP, so that wasn't a problem. A little blinking light came up beside uTorrent, so I knew it had found it with no fuss.
Setting off to explore the program, I found that the "Advanced" tab in it had already filled up with a list of the trackers I was connected to. This Torrent Ratio Keeper is a smart little program.
But what about my uTorrent speed? It comes with a nice "statistics" tab, showing how much my upload and download reports had been adjusted, before sending to the tracker, but it can take an hour or two to update. Trying to be patient, I let it run a while, but while watching uTorrent's speeds, I had a feeling that something was starting to happen. When the stats refreshed, my suspicions were confirmed. I'd gotten nearly 75% extra ratio during that time.
That means that I had higher priority to all the other peers, and they would give me higher priority, when picking who to send files to. But that's not all... The extra ratio meant extra credits for me on some of my membership sites. This was turning out to be better than I expected. A uTorrent speed boost and ratio boost all in one.
On top of all this, I noticed that the "Advanced" tab let me adjust the settings for each tracker, so I could tailor the settings to each tracker if I wanted to.
After doing checking around the TRK forum, I also found a few other useful bits of info. First off, it should run just fine with my torrent helper programs, like PeerGuardian. The helpful admins on the forum also mention that to get the best uTorrent speed, you can adjust the TRK settings a bit until they fit your connection best. Eventually I settled on a 300% increase to my upload reports, and a 20% decrease to all reported download traffic.
